She had no tears left to shed, even though every nerve of her body was wracked with a pain beyond belief. Silvery blood trickled down her arms, her tiny wrists rubbed raw from the shackles that held her. BloodredMirage sighed as she swept shut the curtains, extinguishing the candles with a wave of her hand. Slowly she pulled out the combs and pins that held her hair up, and the thick black braid uncoiled to hang down to her ankles. As she loosened her hair from the plait, she walked over to the huge mirror, covered by a heavy velvet cloth, hanging on one corner of the room. For a moment, she ran her hand down the fabric, thinking of all the lives it had cost to bring it here. It had arrived yesterday, and she had mourned the loss then. But today was another day.
